ENGLISH READING COURSEWARE USING PERSUASIVE DESIGN STRATEGY FOR KINDERGARTEN

Abstract

English Reading Courseware using Persuasive Design Strategy is developed to assist the kindergarteners, teachers, and parents in the phonics language. However, we still lack courseware that uses a persuasive design strategy for kindergarten especially in learning English phonics. Interactive courseware will allow the children to increase their motivation and focus in learning anytime without having to consider the time constraint. The principles of the Persuasive Design Strategy used in the courseware are reduction, suggestion, self-monitoring, conditioning, surveillance, and tailoring. The tunneling principles have been excluded as the courseware does not require the user to involve in any installation processes. The developer proposes to use the theory in the courseware because the theory is efficient in motivating the change of behavior and attitudes caused by interactive technology. This project is divided into three main options, phonics consonants, phonics vowels, and quizzes. In the first and second options, the children can learn phonics through a lesson and video session before continuing to exercise. Next is the quizzes option, where the user can try to answer the questions provided to measure their understanding. The courseware uses the ADDIE methodology, where the developer will analyze the user requirements before designing and developing the courseware. Then, the courseware will be implemented to the CD-ROM before the evaluation of usability occurred. The courseware is developed as an additional tool of learning and it is also able to attract the children interest to learn and experiencing fun while studying phonics
