ESTIMATION OF TOURIST ARRIVALS IN MALAYSIA BY USING RUNGE-KUTTA METHOD AND LINEAR LEAST SQUARE METHOD BY FITTING TRANSCENDENTAL FUNCTIONS
Abstract
The number of tourist arrivals in Malaysia for every year is inconsistent. The tourism industry and any stakeholder may face a problem to estimate the number of tourist arrivals in this country. This will affect the industry itself and also the stakeholder especially to their income or revenue, foreign exchange earnings and employment opportunity. Since the data trend for tourist arrivals is inconsistent, therefore a solution is needed to overcome this problem. If the industry is able to increase the arrivals of tourist to this country, then this will help the country to generate more income and improve country’s finance. But, if the tourist arrivals are decreasing, some solutions and strategies are needed to increase the tourist arrivals back to the country. The objective of this research is to estimate and analyse the data for tourist arrivals in Malaysia by using Runge-Kutta method and Linear Least Square method by fitting transcendental functions. In order to gain the accuracy of the purposed methods, result from the actual data is compared to the estimation solution. Therefore, researcher can choose the most appropriate method to predict the arrivals of tourist for the upcoming years.
